Here are 5 tips to combat itchy, flakey skin during the coldest months of the year:
Up Your Moisturizer Game (Including Slugging at Night): Use a thick, hydrating moisturizer immediately after bathing to lock in moisture. Look for products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. If you really want to combat dry skin try to incoorporate Slugging into your night-time skin care routine. All you have to do is use a small amount of any occlusive product (my personal favorite is Biogel from AnteAGE, but you can also use Aquaphor or Vaseline) and apply a thin layer to your whole face. This keeps your skin from losing moisture over night while you sleep.
Use a Humidifier: Adding moisture to the air in your home can help prevent your skin from drying out. Consider using a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep. Pro tip, if youre feeling under the weather add Doterra On Gaurd to the water.
Limit Hot Showers: While hot showers can be tempting in winter, they can strip your skin of natural oils. Opt for lukewarm water instead and keep showers brief.
Stay Hydrated: I cant stress this enough! Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Hydration from the inside out is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Easiest way to make this a habit is to start off your day with a full glass. Right when you wake up, before you put anything in your belly fill a glass with 16oz of water (I like to add lemon to mine) and finish it off. Its worth investing in a reusable water bottle that is easy to carry around AND fits in your car cup holder. Pop some fruit, a squeeze of lemon, sprig of mint and enjoy! Try to make water fun to drink so you dont get bored.
Choose Gentle Cleansers: Avoid harsh soaps and cleansers that can further dry out your skin. Look for mild, fragrance-free options that are designed for sensitive skin. Cream cleansers are perfect for this! I recommend Skin Script's Pomagranet Antioxidant Cleanser.
